Young mothers get a seaside break

August 12, 2016

Young homeless families were able to have a day trip to Cleethorpes, getting to know others in their situation and enjoy a break from their day-to-day worries.

These single mothers, with little support from family or friends, often suffer from mental health issues including depression and anxiety.

They have ended up in supported housing through becoming homeless or fleeing domestic abuse. Socialising with other mums in the same situation, while out and about, is really beneficial.

Money is also tight, as these families are on benefits and find it difficult to manage in the school holidays. Mothers with young children and few resources spend a lot of time at home, so the support staff felt it would be lovely to treat them to a day out so that they could make some happy memories with their children.

Your donations meant that the scheme could hire a minibus and that the families had fish and chips for lunch, an ice cream, and refreshments for the day, without worrying about the cost.

These families can’t afford go on holidays or day trips. As they move from supported housing into a council or rented property, they will continue to work closely with floating support to prevent them becoming homeless again.

After leaving supported housing, they move into their new home with nothing. As social housing is usually unfurnished, any money left from benefits goes on carpets or furniture.

Your donations help them enjoy life.
