Dry January, a national campaign run by Alcohol Concern, encourages people to take a month off the booze every January and fundraise for the effort.
Last year, 12 million people pledged to give up drinking alcohol for the month. If you don’t wish to sign up yourself, you can sponsor our Communications Manager Nicole Holgate.
Those who join in on the official site are supported throughout the month with encouraging emails and an app to help track and monitor the impact being dry is having on their mind, body, and wallet.
Many of the people that Church Housing Trust supports are recovering from addiction. Living on the streets or in unstable conditions can be highly traumatic, and many people turn to alcohol or drugs in order to dull themselves to their situation.
While one month off alcohol doesn’t come close by comparison, it is a sure way to feel happier, become healthier and save a bit of money. We want everyone connected to our charity to reap these benefits, so we encouraging everyone to get involved together.
Of those that sign up to the campaign and raise funds, half will go to Alcohol concern, and the other half to Church Housing Trust.
