[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Imagine moving into your own home after years on the streets, only to have it be totally empty.
As social housing is often unfurnished, Church Housing Trust funds what we call ‘resettlement grants’. This is usually for basic furniture and equipment when people move into independent accommodation for the first time.
Sandra* came to the project after a family breakdown. She had never lived in hostel accommodation and was wary of other residents. But she was willing to work closely with support staff, and soon began looking for permanent accommodation.
She kept her part-time job throughout this, but it meant that she could not get any government support, even when she faced issues with being paid on time.
She was able to find a flat of her own, but without extra savings, could only just afford to move. As the flat was unfurnished, your donations helped her to buy a fridge, divan bed, and some cooking utensils.
She explained:
“Without the funding I would not have been able to start a new chapter in my life. I have worked part-time for three years and this has not allowed me to apply for any other funding. I would not have been able to afford a bed or fridge, and would have spent months saving for just one. Being able to buy them straightaway has allowed me to sleep more easily, and budget my shopping.
“Without help from Church Housing Trust I would be struggling to keep my flat, I would be too stressed to sleep properly, which would have affected me at work and could have meant I lost my job.”
