A generous donation from advertising firm Kinetic will help to furnish homes for formerly homeless individuals.
Moving into your own accommodation after a period of homelessness is daunting, without the added stress of having no cooker, fridge, curtains, or bed. This is the fate of a huge number of people whose time being homeless has left them with no possessions.
The proud moment when they step through their own front door can become very stressful when they are faced with cold, empty rooms. They do not have the resources to make a bare flat into a home. Without access to basic cooking or washing facilities, there is a much higher chance that they will end up back on the street.
So Church Housing Trust provides resettlement grants for people who are ready to move to buy essentials like carpets, curtains, a bed, a washing machine, or crockery and kitchen items.
With this in mind, our corporate partners Kinetic decided that the money they raised over the past year should form a resettlement fund especially for this purpose. Kinetic raised a grand total of £70,000, with staff taking part in different fundraising activities such as a sponsored bike ride in Belgium (pictured), a bingo night, plus a series of smaller events and individual JustGiving pages.
The donations mean that formerly homeless individuals can make use of local welfare assistance and furniture recycling groups to get the most out of their money, and remove the stress of moving into a new home.
Since their donation to Church Housing Trust, Kinetic’s funding has helped 40 individuals to buy basics for their new homes and take their next step into independence.
