Hostel residents celebrate Easter

April 21, 2017

We hope that everyone has enjoyed the recent Easter and May Bank Holidays. Thanks to our donors, residents of homelessness schemes across the country certainly did.

Seasonal events are often difficult for homeless people, as they do not have family to celebrate with, and little money to spare for presents or outings. Thanks to our donors, men and women at the schemes we support can enjoy get-togethers, fun activities and a few special treats.

Homeless people in Guildford took part in an annual tradition of Easter egg painting, while in Cambridge, men and women made special Easter Friday cakes and then were given an Easter egg each.

Young mums and their babies also had an Easter party and egg hunt and get-together. These small parties are great for the young mothers, who spend a lot of time alone with their children and do not get much of a chance to socialise with one another.

And in Hull, the annual Good Friday Terry St Easter Egg hunt proved a huge success and after fifteen minutes of frantic hunting it was Ryan who won the first prize with a massive 23 finds – you can see from the photo how pleased he was.

Finally, a number of the women living in a central London scheme are alone and celebrating Easter would be a special social event.

The residents have recently been working together on another project funded by Church Housing Trust to renovate their garden. They asked to have a tea party over the Easter weekend so that they could get together to celebrate and enjoy the new space outside in hopefully fair weather. They each got an Easter egg, baked cakes, made sandwiches, and celebrated outside in the revamped garden.
